Student Council 2015-2016
The Brooks Student Council did many amazing things for our school in their first year as a leadership team. They raised funds to purchase soccer nets for the playground. Our Bobcats have enjoyed this addition to their recess time. They also hosted spirit days throughout the year, most recently a hat day where over $100 was raised for the American Cancer Society. The Student Council raised $300 for the Huron Valley Blessings in a Backpack program through a penny war. It is wonderful to see our kids helping others! Way to go Bobcats!
Parent Appreciation Breakfast 2016
We cannot thank our Brooks families enough for all your support throughout the year. We are so thankful to have such amazing parents, guardians, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, and family members who help make up our school family! We appreciate all you do and thank you for being proud members of our team. #Brooksproud
Artist Recognition at HVCA
Congratulations to our Brooks Artist who had their work on display at the Huron Valley Council for the Arts in May. Great job, Bobcats!

Students of the Month--April
Congratulations to our most respectful, responsible, and safe Bobcats for the month of April.
Students of the Month--May
A World in Motion with First Graders
Our first grade students participated in in an early childhood engineering program called A World in Motion (AWIM). This program was generously sponsored for our young Bobcats by General Motors and SAE. Students enjoyed the program called "Rolling Things." Our students participated in launching three cars from ramps, while investigating the effects of different ramp heights and car weights on the distance the cars traveled. Students worked with parent volunteers in small groups to measure and record their findings. Thanks to all who helped make this program such a success for our first graders this year.
Read-Read-Read Summer Reading Is So Important
Dear Parents,
Did you know that kids may experience learning losses when they don’t read during the summer? For kids, summer can be a season full of learning opportunities…or learning losses. At Brooks Elementary, we know that reading every day will help lead to greater success in life. Just as hockey players need to keep practicing during the off-season, the same rule applies to kids when it comes to reading. Reading requires practice, and it’s important that children take the time to read during the summer in order to keep their skills sharp, so they don’t suffer from the “Summer Slide” – the loss of core reading and learning skills that occurs when kids don’t read books during the summer break from school.
Studies show that children who read four or more books over the summer do better on reading tests in the fall than those who read only one or no books during the summer. Imagine if your child’s teacher didn’t have the kids read for three months during the school year...
Here are a few ways easy ways to help your children fall in love with books this summer:
Help your child find a book that matches their interests. Building on a student’s interests can
stimulate an interest in reading, even among reluctant and struggling readers. The Book Mobile has many choices and we can lead you to Just Right Books. Your child will also come home with a Summer Reading Success book-bag in early June. Please encourage your child to read these.
Have a long car trip? Pack your Summer Reading Success bookbag! Visit our Book Mobile at Brooks on Wednesdays this summer to trade in for new books. Don’t forget to visit www.Raz-Kids.com all summer long, Brooks has provided your K-2 student with a free subscription for the summer.
achievement increases. Model this by having a quiet time in your day where you and your family take a time out from electronics and chores and read a book, magazine, or newspaper.
