School Supply Lists for 2015-16
Below are the general supply lists for each grade level at Brooks. In August, when you find out who your teacher is, you may receive a list with a few more classroom specific items.
Summer Book Mobile at Brooks
The Brooks Book Mobile will be meeting on the following dates:
July 15, 22, 29
August 5, 12.
The Brooks Book Mobile will be a one-stop shopping opportunity. We will meet at Brooks Elementary on the Wednesdays listed above from 5:30pm-6:30pm. We will provide a snack, teacher support, games and book shopping. We will continue to provide every child in grades kindergarten through 4th grade with a bag of books to help promote summer reading and to prevent reading loss that occurs during long summer breaks. Please be sure to join us!
Dear Parents,
Did you know that kids may experience learning losses when they don’t read during the summer? For kids, summer can be a season full of learning opportunities…or learning losses. At Brooks Elementary, we know that reading every day will help lead to greater success in life. Just as hockey players need to keep practicing during the off-season, the same rule applies to kids when it comes to reading. Reading requires practice, and it’s important that children take the time to read during the summer in order to keep their skills sharp, so they don’t suffer from the “Summer Slide” – the loss of core reading and learning skills that occurs when kids don’t read books during the summer break from school.
Studies show that children who read four or more books over the summer do better on reading tests in the fall than those who read only one or no books during the summer. Imagine if your child’s teacher didn’t have the kids read for three months during the school year...
Here are a few ways easy ways to help your children fall in love with books this summer:
Help your child find a book that matches their interests. Building on a student’s interests can
stimulate an interest in reading, even among reluctant and struggling readers. The Book Mobile has many choices and we can lead you to Just Right Books. Your child will also come home with a Summer Reading Success book-bag this week. Please encourage that these books be read.
Have a long car trip? Pack your Summer Reading Success bookbag! Visit our Book Mobile at Brooks on Wednesdays this summer to trade in for new books. Don’t forget to visit www.Raz-Kids.com all summer long, Brooks has provided your K-2 student with a free subscription for the summer.
achievement increases. Model this by having a quiet time in your day where you and your family take a time out from electronics and chores and read a book, magazine, or newspaper.
