M-Step Information
Students in grades 3 - 8 and 11 will be participating in the brand new Michigan Summative Test of Educational Progress (M-STEP) in April, May and June. This annual assessment is mandated for all children in Michigan public schools and is one of the tools used to measure a student's proficiency in specific subject areas. The M-STEP is an online assessment and is based on the Michigan Academic Standards.
Parents can help their child do well on the M-STEP in many ways. Please make sure your children have a good night's sleep and a good breakfast. Sending them to school with healthy snacks and bottled water can help them recharge their batteries. Encourage them to do their best work but be careful not to add to their stress level if they are anxious about the tests. There is no other preparation needed.
The state sets the dates that every school district must administer each assessment, so please make sure your children are in attendance and on time for test taking days. We cannot vary from these windows. Following is the scheduled testing window so parents know when their child must be at school for testing, as well as the M-STEP subtests that each grade will be taking:
Grade 11: April 13-June 5 (ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies)
Grades 5 and 8: April 13 to May 1 (ELA, Math and Social Studies)
Grades 4 and 7: April 27 to May 15 (ELA, Math and Science)
Grades 3 and 6: May 18 to June 5 (ELA and Math)
You can find additional information, along with preview tests and sample items at https://wbte.drcedirect.com/MI/portals/mi/ott1 . Please be aware that this page needs to be opened in a Google browser.
If you have any questions on the M-STEP, please contact your building principal. Thank you for your help in preparing your child for the M-STEP and ensuring they are in attendance.
